Tuesday, March 31, 2020.  The Amarillo Public Health has confirmed 1 positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Canyon.  Due to the sensitive information we are not able to share details regarding this case.  We will update if any information becomes available.

MARCH 30, 2020

Monday, March 30, 2020, Canyon Mayor Gary Hinders will host a Facebook Live at 3:00 pm today giving details of Canyon’s response to COVID-19 Status Level Red, which is aligned with the City of Amarillo and new Amarillo Public Health guidance.

Unfortunately we will not have an interpreter for the deaf, but Facebook does provide Closed Captioning.

Effective immediately, Amarillo Public Health has updated its coronavirus (COVID-19) Level to RED. This is the highest alert level, indicating there are widespread confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Amarillo and the surrounding area.

In addition, Canyon Mayor is issuing stay at home guidelines, that will go into effect tonight, (March 30) at 11:59 pm and will be in place at least through Monday, April 13, 2020. We ask that residents stay at home except for outings essential to their own health, safety, and welfare and that of their family members

Under these guidelines, all businesses, except those essential to public health, safety, and well-being, are closed. For a full list of essential businesses, see the attachments below.

The City of Amarillo Department of Public Health received confirmation today (Tuesday, March 24) of the first death in the Amarillo-area attributed to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Due to this individual case occurring outside the jurisdiction of the Amarillo Public Health Department, requests for additional information should be directed to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The City of Canyon would like to reiterate that the decisions we make now regarding social distancing and following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines will directly impact how quickly our region recovers from this virus.
